Healthy (non-brachycephalic) patients without underlying conditions presenting for elective procedures like neutering or routine dental cleaning (scale and polish, no extractions).
ASA IIMild sytemic disease but compensating well

  • Anaemia (Dogs PCV 30-40% / Cats 25-30%)

  • Dehydration (<6%)

  • Murmur Grade 1-2/6 (without full workup)

  • Epilepsy (controlled)

  • Obesity

  • Young (>12 weeks old)

  • Infection (mild/localised)

  • Gastrointestinal Disease (controlled)

  • Hepatic Disease (controlled)

  • Pyrexia

  • Renal Disease (controlled)

  • Endocrinopathy (Stable/Controlled)
ASA IIISevere systemic disease (Not compensating fully)

  • Anaemia (Dogs PCV 20-30% Dogs or Cats 15-25%)

  • Brachycephalic (With any respiratory/GI Signs)

  • Cardiac Murmur Grade 3/6 (Without full workup)

  • Cardiac Arrhythmia (All but controlled)

  • Cardiac Disease (All but controlled)

  • Dehydration (7-9%)

  • Endocrinopathy (Uncontrolled)

  • Epilepsy (Uncontrolled)

  • Gastrointestinal Disease (Uncontrolled)

  • Hepatic Disease (All but Controlled)

  • Infection (Moderate/Systemic ie Pyometra)

  • Pulmonary Disease (All but controlled)

  • Pyrexia

  • Renal Disease (All but controlled)

  • Very youn/neonatal (<12 weeks)

ASA IVSevere systemic disease (Constant threat to life)

  • Anaemia (Dogs PCV <20% Dogs or Cats <15%)

  • Brachycephalic (With moderate-severe respiratory or gastrointestinal signs)

  • Murmur Grade 4-6/6 (Without full workup

  • Cardiac Arrhythmia (Severe/Uncontrolled)

  • Cardiac Disease (Unstable/Decompensated)

  • Dehydration (>10%)

  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis

  • Dyspnoea

  • Emaciation

  • Endotoxaemia

  • Epilepsy (Status epiliepticus)

  • Hepatic Disease (Uncontrolled/Unstable)

  • Immune Mediated Disease (IMHA/IMTP)

  • Renal Disease (Uncontrolled/Unstable)

  • Shock (Severe eg. Hypovolaemia)

  • SIRS

  • Uraemia

  • Urinary Tract Obstruction
